OnlyWire Gets Greedy – Don’t Waste $2.99 On This!

As soon as OnlyWire.com launched a while back, I thought it was pretty cool. I even said OnlyWire was great for internet marketers.
If you haven’t heard of OnlyWire, it’s a social bookmarking tool that lets you bookmark websites to all your social bookmarking accounts with one click. Kind of like a mass-submission software for spamming social bookmark websites would do.
Why a regular web user would need more than one social bookmarking account, I’m not sure.
But this was the perfect tool for internet marketers that wanted to jump into the social media craze without doing much work.
So, considering I didn’t need OnlyWire to post to my sole del.icio.us account, I hadn’t logged in to my OnlyWire account for 6 months or more. But then I got an email the other day that reminded me of the service.
There were four parts…
The friendly introduction thanking you for using the service and reminding you that you actually signed-up for this and should therefore not report it as spam:
Dear OnlyWire User:
Thank you for signing up with OnlyWire – the fastest, easiest way to submit web content to all your social bookmarking sites automatically.
Throwing the product description in there makes for a nice transition to the next part…
The bragging and gloating making the service sound amazing and reinforcing the idea that you made a good decision by signing-up for it:
Over the past year, OnlyWire has become the most popular bookmark submission tool on the Internet and has won some notable acclaim. OnlyWire also became a valuable member of SNiPiTRON, LLC, a web-based software development company that provides Bookmarking and Collaboration tools for capturing, organizing and sharing bookmarks, content, and files with clients, co-workers and friends. With the SNiPiTRON platform, OnlyWire has now become the Number One Bookmarking Tool on the web.
Then they state the reason you should use OnlyWire again, even if you got bored with it:
We have made many improvements to OnlyWire. With these enhancements we are pleased to launch OnlyWire 2.0. Using a stable, secure and optimized platform for enhanced performance and reliability, OnlyWire 2.0 is BETTER and FASTER. Some of the recent improvements include: faster submission processes, increased bookmark links and improved functionality (to mention just a few). We are very proud of these enhancements and urge you to check out the new release at www.OnlyWire.com.
At this point you should be really excited about how awesome OnlyWire is and can’t imagine life without it. Which means you are primed for…
The “oh yeah, we’re going to start charging for the service” details:
With this new release, OnlyWire is implementing a “Pay or Promote” program. To continue to use OnlyWire, we are asking all existing users to choose an account option – one is FREE and the other is a paid version. The choices follow:
1. FREE version — To continue to use OnlyWire for FREE, all you need to do is add the Bookmark & Share button to your website. To choose this option and to add the Bookmark & Share Button to your website’s homepage, click here.
2. PAID version —If you do not want to add the Bookmark & Share button to your homepage, you can simply pay a small fee of $2.99 per month or a discounted annual fee of $24.99 (a 30% savings). You can pay this fee via credit or debit card. To sign up, click here.
They have the gall to start charging a monthly fee for their service! That is anti-Web 2.0 if I’ve ever seen it.
But there’s a simple solution to this dilemma…
Remember how I said this was a great service for internet marketers? Well, any time internet marketers find a good concept, hundreds of them will copy it.
Here’s the proof – projects on Get a Freelancer and Script Lance.
Out of the hundreds of clones, a few survive and even attract a few users. So all you have to do is find one of these sites and use it instead.
Like this one – Social Marker. Or SocialMatic. It looks like a worthy substitute.
It’s not like the $2.99 per month is a lot of money, but it’s pointless to pay for such a service. Heck, you could buy web hosting for $2.99 per month and you should end up with a positive ROI.
It’s also the principal of the matter! No spammer is going to stand for a $2.99 monthly charge!

Click here to buy me a beer, because damn, I need to get drunk to forget how much internet marketing sucks!

Wow! I think you may have missed the value of our solution as there is much more to it then you may realize. Take for example your use of the ShareThis button on your site above. We have a Bookmark and Share button that blows it away.
I hope you will visit the site and learn more about our true value. If you would like to chat you have my email.
Thanks
Ryan
Well, i don’t see a problem using them for free with that button which promotes them. It’s normal to give credits to things that are worth, and that you have advantage of.
Well it seemed like a short cut for marketer to make a quick buck from social media.
All you have to do is post their button on your website and the use of the service is free.
I don’t agree that Social Marker is a substitute for OnlyWire. SM is far more manual and takes much more time.
A way to keep using OnlyWire without paying is to link back to them from one of your websites. Personally I have a domain that is just sitting there because I haven’t had time to do anything with it. It is perfect as a placeholder for that link.
I have never been impressed by them nor used them, they are no more than form filler service I can not see them helping (bringing something new) at all
well.. i just need to try
I am not sure if you are kidding or not. I personally use socialmarker and it is manually intensive. If OnlyWire is faster and automated, it is worth it because there are so many tedious manual tasks that need to be done to promote your websites. Even with tools like socialmarker and OnlyWire, I found that I needed to hire a VA just to keep up.

I’m kidding in the sense that all auto-bookmarkers are lame and unnecessary.
I just hate it when that happens, freeware rpoviders start wanting to charge you for their product after you have downloaded, installed and used it.
I agree with you Ruby! that happens to my Brother in law just a month ago.
It is a nice tool to do shortcut for your social media work. we should post its button to website and give some credit to use it free.
Seems worthy if you have already taken the vast time to set up the accounts. i.e. SM Users
I used only wire a few times. I think thier are 3 more i have tried that are similar. If i find the list of them i will post them so you can look at them.
One i remember is posttoaster i think that is name.
I’ve never used such thing, but it would be nice to see the names from the previuos reply.
I tried Onlywire after reading you post i not found so much useful to pay bucks, this kind of many free tool available in market but thx for new tool ….. i got some new site from it…
I used it, but I was ticked off that they want to charge for it so I am going to look at some of the alternatives. I always get ticked off when something I was getting for free becomes a paid service. However, when a paid service becomes free I don’t mind. Too bad for them, I think they made a big mistake.
OnlyWire is best social bookmarking site. This site has good features for bookmarking. I like it.
Paid Social bookmarking tool lots available in market, people never goes with paid one and specially for bookmarking….
OnlyWire is good social bookmarking site. But if you stay in competition you can free version of site.
I too listen about social market but I am not much aware of it. Thanks for the detailed description about the social media and the tips…
Heck, I’m new to your blog and it’s great. Well, I never knew of this service(OnlyWire) and I’ll be taking a beginning of automated social bookmarking. Thanks for those two links to websites!
Loaded only wire but never used it didnt find it that useful and I dont really want to spend all day bookmarking sites..how can they charge for this?
I have focused on the 10 biggest social media sites and submit manually to them.Instead of Onlywire there is another one called Social Marker that works fine, and is free.
Thanks for the tool, I have rseolved to get into social bookmarking this month so this should be a valuable resource.
I have been looking for ways to increase traffic too. This blog is so funny, yet actually helpful in the ways that it reviews services. Thanks
Nate
I seen onlywire not get impressed that much, many believes manual bookmarking get more benefited…
Thank you for the heads up, we usually fall victim of such premium software when there’s a much better free one.
OnlyWire’s response wasn’t too convincing in my opinion.
@Wii
Haha yeah. The only difference I saw between ShareThis and OnlyWire is that OnlyWire’s button displays ads!
The only way to get rid of those ads is to pay the $3 monthly fee. Lame.
i found only wasting of time like this sites, always different service rather they offers.
OnlyWire is good site but it is paid therefore so many visitor don’t use this site for bookmarking.
I do not think that this is a good serive, for it takes a long time to fill in the usernames and passwords.
I would rather do it manually
Thanks i have to try social marker. I used only wire a few times before and it worked good. Not sure if i want to pay for it since more sites offer the same service now.
It’s really Great tool. In one time submit site in many Social Bookmark site. Thanks For Sharing.
I don’t see a reason to not use socialmarker for it.
Paying for services in web 2.0? NO WAY!
They target people who have avoiding rules and doing everything the cheapest way possible in their blood. I don’t think trying to charge them was a good move.
It is indeed great tool. But I have some some people always prefer to do it manually than doing it automatically.
Most people do not believe in automatic tools. Since automatic tools submit sites instantly to hundreds of sites, site may get penalized by SE.
Automatic tools are great! If they are free, even better. But i do understand that they would like to make some money with their at the time revolutionary software. The problem is as you stated in the post that everyone copies a good idea, and soon the software is just one of a million…
yeah I stick onlywire on a free blogspot just to keep it active
I personally don’t fave websites that forces us to promote their websites through share buttons and this will allow us to have it free to use. If that’s the case, I would rather choose delicious.
Thanks for this post, I will give it a try soon
I just signed up for their service, don’t see too much impact though
I use SocialMarker but it does take a bit of time to submit to all the sites. I tried OnlyWire version 1.0 and it looks like they’ve fixed some problems they were having with that with the release of the 2.0 version but I sure wish it was still free.
Thank you. It seems that only wire are having some problem.
We have been using this for a while on one of our sites and it works well I think.
Good. Onlywire is free service providing for bookmarking. I will try it.
I think it is really required free version of OnlyWire. If customer satisfy with your service than they will apply for paid version.
Wow. Thanks for sharing good information. Onlywire is really helpful for my bookmarking.
As you said correct no need to waste “$” for onlywire.
exactly what i was telling my friend but that sob wasn’t convinced :S
Good luck with that. I don’t think anyone will use it in a month or two. Maybe some users will stay because it’s easier to pay than to find a new service but most people will switch to the free competitors.
I don’t think it’s anti-web 2.0 at all for them to start charging. Consider the fact that this service costs THEM money just to run – It’s not unreasonable to charge $3 a month. It’s business.
All good things start as free versions, but soon after becoming popular, they start charging.
Nobody going to use such service, not Surprise it may close soon.
Boo hoo. It’s like $3. If it saves you let’s say 10 minutes a month it should be worth the cost unless you are making NO money at all online.
Maybe I’m the odd one, but I will pay for software and services that save me time cause I can make more per hour doing more important things than wasting my time with tasks that can be automated or outsourced.
@Brian
There are free alternatives that work better than OnlyWire. If you want to pay $3 for an inferior product, that’s fine with me.
I will try to Onlywire. I hope it’s easy to use and manage bookmarking work.
Agree with Sucker many alternatives and options available, and you can use money at proper place which give more benefit.
I was tried it and agree with you. there is no need to spent some amount in only wire.
thanks.
I think manually bookmarking is good way to any other tool. But i will try it.
I believe onlywire have provided over the time I’ve been with them a good service, i mean a ‘laborers worth his wages’ and if the roles were reversed and you spent the time effort into a product ( yes it is a product) like onlywire out of your pocket then you’d expect to get some type of return for your efforts, don’t you think? Struth your giving up a BigMac once a month which instead of killing you slowly (the burger) will increase your sites exposure (onlywire)- my 2c worth
I always liked OnlyWire but I am now quite annoyed that I see they have used my account to do some auto-bookmarking for onlywire in my name!!
@Herbalife
That’s funny. Not only are they getting free advertising that way, you’re probably paying them for it.
Gives me an idea though. Start a bookmarking service, wait for the users to pile in, then use their accounts to bookmark all my other web pages!
Is Onlywire the best socialmarker?
You can actually get the service for free if you put a little onlywire box on one of your websites. I have a really old website that makes a couple bucks here and there each month and that’s where this code ended up.
There aren’t any traffic requirements or anything so it seems like a legitimate way of using the service without paying for it.
What are you people complaining about? Are you making money while using someone else’s product? Since when do other people have a duty to put in time, effort, and expense to create something and then give it to you for free? Would you do it?
yes i once use onlywire on my blog too, then when they charge small amount of money, i remove it, better use sociable plugin for wordpress
Thank you for the heads up, we usually fall victim of such premium software when there’s a much better free one.
Never paid for any software, and never will. Personally dont see the point of it, you can usually find a free software that does the job just as well.
