BlogRush Is Shutting Down
In the latest news of epic FAILs by internet marketing gurus, you’ll see that BlogRush is shutting down.
It comes as no surprise to me – I switched to running BlogCrap widgets long ago as I predicted from the start that BlogRush would be useless. (Actually I didn’t switch, because I never bothered with BlogRush in the first place.)
If you read the sales letter explanation, you’ll see an interesting point:
We have received several offers & inquiries about acquiring BlogRush, but we are choosing not to go that route. While many might think this is crazy, we truly feel it’s the ‘right’ thing to do for our users. Believe it or not, it’s not always about the money. In fact, BlogRush will have lost a small fortune when it’s all said and done, and it was by choice. There were many things we could have done to monetize the service but we wanted to make sure it was going to benefit our users first.
Gullible readers will think, “wow, what a great showing of ethics and morals.” But anyone that’s been around the internet marketing game for a while will see right through that.
See, BlogRush never needed to make money directly. They just needed to build a huge database of blog traffic stats and user details. (Yes, there are always ulterior motives.)
Don’t be surprised if the data gleaned from the BlogRush network reappears in a new service business (income.com perhaps) or at least results in you receiving pitches about John Reese’s latest product launch.
In short, don’t be sympathetic. They’ll get their money’s worth in no time.
(And forget the whole “if you come up with an idea at 4 AM, go for it!” rhetoric. Yes, entrepreneurs should be bold, but not dumb. Mashable sums it up nicely.)

BlogRush is really shutting down ? Thanks for the update.
Like you I really do doubt that the data won’t be used in some way. I’m always very sceptical of free sites for this very reason… there’s a very good chance that eventually they’ll use your data in ways that you didn’t wish it to be used or start charging when you become reliant on the service being offered.
I agree with you, I never put their widget on my site, MyBlogLog is the only one I use and swear by. I will check out BlogCrap right now as you always give sound advice.
Okay, well now I feel like a total idiot, I actually clicked on your widget, even after reading the BlogCrap post, I think my humor radar must be off tonight…blonde central over here
yeah blogrush is useless, i think the same too they will shuting down soon, anyway thanks for the info
Wait! But the BlogCrap widget isn’t being discontinued is it? Cuz that’s something I really believe in. JP said s/he couldn’t click on it.. is it just down (again)? Will you send out a service update on BlogCrap’s status? Heeeelllllp.
Rest assured, BlogCrap is not going anywhere. But if there is any intermittent downtime, it is simply because we are using our resources for testing the next addition to our service lineup
I guess it looks like i will be switching to blogcrap, seems to get good reviews.
BlogRush was never going to last. With any of these services, if they don’t monetize within a year then they become a financial black hole, eventually they suck all the available funds. Think of the hosting and maintenance costs – and it brought no traffic!
I’m not surprised though. The standard had detoriated a bit, there was hardly updates and too many people had started losing interest.
The death of a potential good idea… With thousands of “5 cents mindset” marketers abusing it, the risk was predictible. But as we say ” Those who risk nothing get nothing”.
BlogRush is not going to make it, I think it came out too late. MyBlogLog seems to also be slowing down on the number of blogs that I see.
I signed to their directory once but got rejected.
I am not sure the quality level of blogrush, but my first sign up with them with a blogspot blog got rejected as well like Bisnis online. However, after i improved my blogging skill and sign up again for my second blog, it got approved and the blogrush was closing down after 2 weeks my blog got approved. I put up that widget but seems like not helpful. Anyway, don’t know what’s their next action to do with their gathered resources!
Hosting and maintenance does not really cost much. With the volume of user databases they have in hand, monetizing those data will bring in reasonable amount of money too.

Too bad it didn’t work out. ‘BlogRush’ offered the fine service but their intention of generating loyal users failed.
Oh i didn’t know that BlogRush is shutting down. Anyway thanks for the update.
This blogs is really great! wish i can create same as your blogs.
I’m wondering what’s behind this shutdown?
This is a very nice blog to read. Thank you so much for the priceless information.
Well, talk about cutting through the bull@#$$@&!!
I like it where you say “there’s always ulterior motives” and it is so very true. Why would anyone invest a huge amount of time on an internet venture without any payoffs?
Charity is one thing but online business ventures are not a charitable environment.
I never put their widget because they reject me Lol. Thanks for the post, i’m learning something here.
At least John Reese took some action. Many won’t. He surely has learned something from this that will help create a better product tomorrow. Didn’t the expert say “success is failure turned upside down”?
I notice that some people still promote blogrush as a great way to get traffic to your site…it’s a dead link now of course. Mybloglog is great in my opinion…
It’s too bad that blogrush is shutting down. So my mybloglog is the best choice
Yeah I’m always sceptical as to the sites that don’t want to monetize “on principle”. People start sites like that to make money and if they don’t make it directly there must be some other way they’re making it. And at that point I’d rather not get involved.
Great post. This is a very nice blog to read. Thank you so much for the priceless information.
There are plenty that put up an ethical image upfront who knows what’s happening back end?
Sure “it’s not about money”. That’s why the site is filled with ads and stuff… If they got any *real* offers they’d sell it in a heartbeat. They’re writing that just so that maybe someone will get interested and decides to buy it.
