How To Stop Comment Spam: One Simple Step

Wouldn’t it be nice if spammers gave us a way to opt-out of their spam blog comments?

Well, some spammers are considerate enough to do that:

How considerate!

To repay the favor, I have left the spammer’s email and IP address, so that you can manually block them through your WP admin panel if you bother doing that.

  1. Todd Andrews on October 9th, 2008

I’ve actually never seen one like that before. Now can you please post it as a comment so I can click a few of the hyperlinks? I’d like to see some amateur model pic gay street big.

  2. Melanie Phung- Washington DC SEO on October 9th, 2008

Is there some way to opt *in* to *more* spam via his spam subscription management dashboard? Or maybe let him know that you would like him to sell your contact info to other spammers? Because that would be a terrific value-added spam offering as well. It’s all about giving people choices over their spam, you know.

If the strategy is not to get those links published at all, but simply sucker people into clicking on that link, I’ve got to say that’s quite brilliant. What do you want to bet it works at least some of the time?

  3. Sucker on October 9th, 2008

    @Todd

I’d recommend the “face sitting smothering” link instead. Unfortunately the links are no longer active :(

  4. Sucker on October 9th, 2008

    @Melanie

I actually went there looking to opt-in for more spam, but much to my dismay, they had no such options. (The free webhost http://www.ueuo.com had actually terminated their account already. Don’t you just hate when that happens?)

  5. Nintendo Wii Fit on October 10th, 2008

To stop the spammer I block their mail id and ip address manually through WP admin panel

  6. zawadi on October 10th, 2008

nice , but most spammers are there and then gone for ever..so if u block them.. there are hundreds more to take their place… :(

  7. zania on October 10th, 2008

    Lol! That’s a classic.
The spammers never send comments like that to me and I work in adult…perhaps that’s why…

Oh and Todd, once you’ve seen one ‘amateur model pic gay street big’ you’ve seen them all ;)

  8. Andrew Green on October 12th, 2008

If we block the ip they can use the proxy then ???

  9. JR @ Internet Marketing Strategies on October 12th, 2008

LMAO, I too have not seen THAT before.

I wish I could just set a SPAM bomb and blast all these bastards to the 7th circle of HELL!! Yesterday I had 550 spams in Akismet filter!
    Thanks Sucker!

  16. Wax Tarts on October 16th, 2008

Could you possibly make the steps easier? I really want to try it.

  17. Sucker on October 16th, 2008

@ anyone who wants the steps to be easier

There is one step, and it was created by the spammer. I have no control over how comment spammers let you opt-out from their spam list, so I can’t exactly change it.

And if you were actually thinking they would let you opt-out for real, and quit spamming you… well… get real.

  18. roselynmendoza on October 19th, 2008

There’s an old saying… “It’s better to teach a man to fish, rather than give him the fish.” These tips are useful to anyone who wants to fight poverty through finding jobs to earn enough money.

  19. Mark McWilliams on October 20th, 2008

SPAM is the one thing I get fed-up deleting on my blog, however I am very thankful for the Akismet plugin! Without that, then the SPAMMERS would be having a field day over on my blog.

    Can SPAM ever be stopped?!

I’ve yet to receive one that tells me how to get off their SPAMMING list! LOL (It’s asking for trouble if you ask me though, so I wouldn’t even visit the link they provided!)

    Thanks
    Mark

  20. make money online like goofblogger on October 20th, 2008

What I find amazing the amount of duplicate spam that I receive. Also, I wonder what the possible benefit could be since most filter out spam automatically.

  21. Downloadic on October 21st, 2008

    I hate spammers.
I block their mail id and ip address manually

  22. Internet Marketing on October 21st, 2008

It is not really that difficult to block these spammers from your blog comments. Have their ip address, email as well as domain name. You can block them easily through your admin panel. However, do install a anti-spam plugin to secure your plan. Rif Chia

    Hello,
I hate spammers and its a big problem but its very simple to block these spammers by simply blocking spammers email and IP address through your WP admin panel.

  34. Zobel on November 13th, 2008

and what if they have nonstatic ip-adress

  35. Sucker on November 13th, 2008

    @Zobel

The IP address has nothing to do with this…

  36. Tracy on November 13th, 2008

I agree with Melanie this is just a way to get you to click on a link.
As for these blatant spam comments which are just jibberish and junk I am happy with my Askimet filter it seems to work great at getting all of them out of my moderation box.

  37. mr.eims @ prospects on November 25th, 2008

well..theres no way to stop them, actually.. So i dont really feel messed up with them.just delete their comment manually since latest wordpress comment management was very easy to use.. ;)

  42. Ron on March 19th, 2009

If you use askimet then what’s the big deal? You don’t have to deal with spam anymore right? I’m kind of new to blogging so forgive me if I sound naive -I am.

  43. Property Sale on April 7th, 2009

Thanks for that!I shall block him on mine. We should compile a list of spammers so that we can avoid them.

  44. Odzyskiwanie Danych on April 9th, 2009

This guy is hilarious! One line of actual (phishing) comment and 3 paragraphs of keywords and “introduction”? At least you can’t accuse him of postin “too short comments”.

  45. Seo on May 5th, 2009

That is a white hat spammer :)

  46. First Home Buying on May 8th, 2009

Hahaha. That’s actually the first time I’ve ever seen that one. I’ve shoveled through lots of spam in my time and I have never had the pleasure of encountering such a cordial spam message.

  47. How to Videos on May 22nd, 2009

Ah-hah…there is integrity in the spammer world after all. What kind of spammer acknowledges their list as a “spam” list.

    Learning honesty from a spammer…what’s next…lawyers!

  48. gas card on June 20th, 2009

Haha that’s new. It’s good to know that some spammers are considerate enough to give you a “way out”. Actually, its good to know that the company is admitting that they are spamming people.
