Getting a 254% Commission Increase by Giving Away Free Stuff

Remember when I “let the cat out of the bag” about the whole 254% affiliate commissions sales pitch? Well, I was apparently way off base with my tip for getting bigger affiliate commissions. A commentator mentioned that the book I ‘reviewed’ was actually about email marketing.
That’s kind of funny because of how that has nothing to do with the title or the sales page, but have no fear, I have another tip for you to save your hard-earned dollars!
(And you’ll save a lot of hard-earned dollars, because Affiliate Evolution costs $97 now! There’s no longer a little $10 trial deal thingy.)
This is another fairly common strategy that gets heralded as “a top secret tip to skyrocket your affiliate commissions” in most sales letters. So I’ll give you my take on it, for free.
First, the goal is to build up a huge subscriber list. You want a big list of email subscribers – if you have a list of people, you can market to them all the time, for free. That sure beats PPC to affiliate marketing through Adwords where you pay for each and every click and have no chance for follow-up.
The strategy to achieve the goal is to give out free information in exchange for a name and email address. This strategy actually is a time-tested formula that has worked wonders on and off the internet…
But I’ll wait a moment while that sinks in. You are possibly at a loss for words at the moment, because this is such an exclusive strategy that you’ve probably never seen it used before! (I for one am certainly not using this strategy at the top center of this page at this very moment…)
So yeah, it’s an easy formula:
- Build a web page.
- Write a little special report and make it a PDF.
- Set-up an autoresponder to collect emails and deliver the report.
- [hocus pocus alakazam]
- Make 254% affiliate commissions and get super rich.
Step 4 is supposed to seem like a magical step, because that’s the only way these marketers can convince you to buy their ebooks. But there is no magic or trickery involved…
It starts off simple. When someone lands on your web page, they’ll be enticed into giving you their email address so that they can get this free special report.
You don’t make any money yet though. That’s OK, just check out this comparison:
Technique 1: Instead of collecting emails, you send people direct through your affiliate link. You might end up with a $100 commission at the end of the month. And that’s it.
Technique 2: But say you make no money up front but collect the email addresses as a trade off… then you can email these people a few more times at no extra charge (with your affiliate link in each email, of course.)
Then maybe you’ll convince enough people to buy the product with each email that you’ll end up with a $300 commission instead. You just tripled your commission! Not too shabby.
And it actually works. But it’s not perfect, and it’s not what it once was. And it certainly isn’t what the big-name internet marketers make it out to be in their bright red headlines.
With spam filters these days, plus the popularity of temporary email addresses, you’re fighting a losing battle.
Plus, you are just collecting names of freebie seekers who might never open their wallet for anything. So you could end up wasting 100% of your time and money.
Based on my assumptions (like I said, I haven’t even taken a peek inside this book,) Affiliate Evolution is nothing more than some internet marketers squeezing a few more dollars out of noobs who got sucked into buying a book about an old, outdated marketing strategy.

This is just an outdated strategy that works long ago but not anymore. People gets smarter and registers free email account specially for free goodies online which means they never get to read those affiliate emails that will be blasted to them. – Rif Chia
If there’s one thing I want, its more crap in my inbox. I love signing up for freebies, as nothing pleases me more than emails automatically generated with my first name in them.
Wow.. Its a great post. Really enjoyed every word of it while reading it.
You know the more I use the Internet for marketing purposes the more I realize that there is really no secret.
If there is one thing that makes me not give a second look on a sales letter is on that that claims to reveal secrets!
Well though and written post, Very frank.
I agree with you on a large majority of what you said in this post. Most marketers build their businesses reselling outdated, rehashed material that you can get for free online. I am actually sick of it myself.
But…I have to defend the Affiliate Evolution. The purpose of this product was not to reveal something that was rehashed, but to describe a particular principle known as the “Commission Bump” which allows affiliates to actually make a lot more money than the product owner.
The course discusses how you can setup a powerful business model selling other people’s products….building a responsive buyer’s(customer) list, and make a killing on the backend selling high ticket offers.
So the course doesn’t reveal the obvious of:
1. Giveaway something free
2. Collect the opt in by exchanging the gift.
3. Make money selling to them via email marketing
No….if you got that from the Affiliate Evolution course, then you missed out big time!
The purpose, as stated before, was to teach any affiliate how to setup a very lucrative business model that has the potential of giving you tons of additional money by selling someone else’s product. Also, you will not just build an email list, but you’ll build a customer list, that you can tap into and quadruple the amount of money that you can make by promoting backend offers to your customers.
OK OK… so it’s probably about selling $7 info products, so instead of freebie seekers, you get somewhat legitimate customers on your list. Still the same thing.
Its quite interesting topic but i am very much interested in learning to internet marketing as i am in the same field. I feel this is wide task to learn
I think not that wide task to learn. All we have to do id to be patient.
I feel this is wide task to learn.Really enjoyed every word of it while reading it.Thanks for the post.
Thank you for posting such interesting topic. I really enjoyed reading it.
Well I have to say that at least in some niche’s opt-ins work well. Never tried it in the make money online but I’ve used it in several others and do manage to make some sales. don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!
@Earth
Like I said, it’s a solid strategy that is time-tested and proven. The problem is not the strategy itself, rather it is people rehashing the exact same strategy into a “new” $97 ebook.
Thanks for responding…maybe I wasn’t 100% clear about this.
Like I mentioned before, the strategy in this course is all about selling other people’s products as an affiliate and building a customer list.
You can not build a customer list promoting one of those $7 offers that gives you instant commissions. It is impossible for you to collect the customer’s information unless you use have your own product.
The strategy in the course is all about selecting any affiliate product(Clickbank, CJ, Linkshare) and promoting it in such a way that allows you to build a customer list using a principle known as the “Commission Bump”.
This is definitely not rehashed material, but a unique way for us all to see some heavy earnings without the need of spending hours creating our own product.
@Melvin
I heard you loud and clear, and I never said anything about promoting $7 products as an affiliate. You are just telling me stuff I already know, and I still think it’s old news. I have nothing more to say.
I think email follow ups on the internet marketing world have lost much of their power because generally people are “onto you”. Weather that means using a spam account or just strong spam filters the audience is weary. Outside the IM world I have found email follow ups much more effective. Without a reputation of one of the IM mega gurus, getting your email read becomes a lot harder.
Yeah i have noticed that people give the email id which they don’t use for free e books.
The problem is that email marketing is in serious decline. Open rates are so low these days that it’s usually not worth developing an email autoresponder campaign unless you can grow a huge email list.
I’d agree with you – I wouldn’t buy the Affiliate Evolution book.
Yes, I agree that email marketing today is in decline, maybe one of the reasons is that people are tired of reading those “spammy” emails. Anyway, thanks for sharing your book.
What do you thing is the main cause of people falling for such scams or traps….
Thanks for sharing the great info!
This is a great blog, really enjoyed reading it, thank you
254% Commission? $ound$ good!!
Very interesting blog! Really great
Thank you for posting such interesting topic. I really enjoyed reading it.
Sounds good, but nowadays people have become too alert and careful about not falling into the trap of email marketing. We have to look for some other modality to pick up the business.
Tracy
Nice look.I like it.Great contents
Lets not call it a scam. It is a trick to rewrite some so called “powerful” techniques to make money online.
Rif Chia
Strategies you have discussed are certainly worth applying…thanx a lot for sharing this great stuff
Affiliate evolution is the brand new affiliate marketing product which teaches how an average affiliate like you and I can transform into a super advanced affiliate . Affiliate evolution’s basic technique shown in the system is a technique called
the commission bump, which allows us to literally increase our affiliate commission up above what the product creator is actually paying out. I feel Affiliate evolution is a better one in the market.
Cheers,
Anita
Nice Work buddy. I must say it is a great post, well written and great information. The links you provided in the post are also very helpful. Thanks once again
Interesting read. Thanks for sharing such interesting topic.
Interesting strategy indeed. Very easy but definitively makes results. Better then old-fashioned blatant way of direct selling.
Truly a great write up. Thanks a lot for this one.
Thanks dude. We do put up with a ton of cr^p and utter manipulation in this IM niche. Don’t you love all those hypnotic psychological expert rich jerks? Ego, vanity. GD.
So it’s not 100%, but the more subscribers you get the more likely you are to see a great ROI, right?
Brilliant.
Nice one! Thank you so much for the awesome post.
I used to write ebooks and give them away for free. After 3 months I had to cancel my awebers account because I had a huge list, but as you said, it was full of freeby seekers and none of them were willing to spend a dollar on a real product…
Very interesting topic! What you discussed are really worth to apply.
Your sarcasm is spot on. Especially Step 4! There is a group of people who fail to understand on some levels, internet marketing turns itself into a great ponzi scheme – everyone’s just selling to each other and trying to get to the top of the pyramid.
i agree with a guy up there who commented that affiliate evolution is great way…. but the annoying fact is about the freebies emails that comes in your inbox like sometimes it really sucks to deleate them of…. in fact i have my separate account for the freebies, which i open very rarely…
Free is good but people will take advantage and misuse products/services. Some won’t even read the emails being sent. Scams do not work, this might but it is a long shot.
IS this balckhat?
Cristian
wow this post is really cool!!..
thanks for posting it…!!
I don’t think its Blackhat SEO but I agree with the first commenter, this may have worked in the past but I believe it’s outdated now and might not work as well as you think. Then again its worth a try? If you are not seeing the best results why not give it a try with your website.
You have really choice a very nice topic. Your this post is wonderfull.
Thanks for the really informative post. So what autoresponder would you recommend? I heard aweber is good, but are there any better ones to use?
Good topic, thanks for bringing out those very useful ideas. This is another business opportunity for people who are interested to make money online.
Waiting for a new post….
That was pretty enjoyable. Your other posts are wonderful to read as well! Thanks for pointing all these out.
@DominateIM
I recommend Aweber.
Thank you for sharing a valuable topic. I can’t wait to hear more.
Wow.. Its a great post the technology era has boosted and has also bought some revenue with it
If there is one thing that makes me not give a second look on a sales letter is on that that claims to reveal secrets!
Thank you for posting such interesting topic.
As always here you describe good and informatively and your Technique also seems interesting, but do you think is it enough capable to beats PPC so far my experienced said not possible, i like if you share your more experience regarding this topic i like your way to writing and topics so i eager to know more about your experience on it.
blogging does help people make some extra money and gain some utility on their free time and since there is no cost associated with it is 100% profit for all.
Nice article. I think we can adopt some other methods for making money online than blogging
When i create my next blog i think i will use this but currently my commission is at a standard rate which is very slow to convert.
Your comment is so true about “…freebie seekers who might never open their wallet for anything.” These resouces also conveniently neglect to tell about the hard work required to get enough traffic that will grab your free ebook, ( of which a tiny percentage will subsequently pay you for any other product you have.)
Dave
Yah…. but, any type of person on a list may help you.
I don’t really like to do referral stuffs. However, it’s good for those people who loves doing it.Great explanation.
I’ve been saying this forever – giving away prizes/free things is the best for of marketing. It’s cheaper than buying ads and it’s actualy more targeted – people associate your brand with nice thing (i.e. free stuff) instead of just recognising the name from annoying ads.
