Text-Link-Ads Dropped Out of Google: What Happens Now?

tnx logo

So by now everyone must know that Text-Link-Ads (TLA) has all but disappeared from Google. Does that mean that text link selling services should quit and give up, or does it mean that there is an open spot for market leader?

TNX.net is hoping for the latter!

This new text link marketplace seemed to appear out of thin air but now boasts a link inventory of over 30 million! That’s pretty serious, especially when you think about the 10,000 or so odd links being added each hour.

I couldn’t help but sign-up after reading reviews on some of the “make money online” blogs.

This is what sealed the deal: When PR hasn’t updated for months, there are a lot of good pages still ranked as a PR0. So these links, which in actuality could have reached PR3, maybe PR5, are really cheap! You can join TNX and buy hundreds or thousands of links on “PR0″ pages that have tons of Yahoo backlinks for clearance sale prices!

(It’s easy to do, just buy links according to Yahoo backlinks and ignore the PR.)

Plus, link inventory is hidden for security, the points system makes buying links pretty cheap, and they’re nice enough to give out a bunch of free bonuses.

Did I mention their system tries to set-up your campaign legitimately so it doesn’t look like link spam? That’s pretty sweet, and shows how smart the people behind TNX are. (Granted you can still screw things up if you’re stupid, but they try to help out.)

They really make link buying awesome. The more I buy, the more I like it. :D

I figured I’d test the ‘link selling’ part too. (That’s on one of my smaller sites, not here, of course.) It’s pretty simple to add the code to your page, but it’s still over 100 lines of PHP code… I’m worried there’s some sort of “footprint” in there making it easy to spot. I’ll get back to you on that part after some testing.

[*Update* I'm pretty sure that, whether or not TNX does leave a footprint, Google has some way to detect it.]

But overall it looks good on both sides. I could see myself using this a little bit and possibly recommending it.

Get your links (and sell your links) at TNX.net.

Bonus hint: Remember the tip about getting good links from PR0 sites with lots of backlinks? Well, those are the only sites I bought links from. Don’t fall in the trap of “well I’m not sure about PR0, so I’ll get the PR1 links.” The PR1 sites probably aren’t that great, I mean, they only got a 1. But the PR0 pages could be on their way to a PR5 once the PR update finally hits.

(As I said, it’s all about the Yahoo backlinks.)

So… get your links at TNX.net. At the very least, it’s cheaper than Text Link Ads.

Or whatever, go with TLA, it won’t bother me. That’s probably still the best way to sell links since they charge high prices.

So, you have something personaly with my blog (is PR 1) ?

    :-) ))))))))))))))))

ps: did you checked your MBL account ?

  2. YC on October 24th, 2007

Hey Sucker, thanks for mentioning my review – how’s it working for you so far?

  3. Shane on October 24th, 2007

Remember, those PR0 sites aren’t “on their way” to PR anything. PR is updated constantly, so they’re already measured accurately within Google. The only thing that isn’t updated regularly is the Toolbar PR, which is only a snapshot.

If Google sees these sites as PR5 today, you’re getting a PR5 link for a PR0 price — you don’t have to wait for the Toolbar PR update to see the benefit.

  4. Sucker on October 24th, 2007

Yes Shane, I remember how PR works. If I thought that toolbar PR was the true PR value all the time, the strategy I pointed out wouldn’t make any sense, and I wouldn’t have pointed it out in the first place.

The whole point is to get links from sites that show a PR0 in the toolbar, but are much more worthwhile in actuality.

It’s just that link sales happen to be based on toolbar PR because that’s the only PR we can see…

  5. XMCP on October 24th, 2007

What specifically seperates this from the places that have gotten busted (TLA)?

  6. Sucker on October 24th, 2007

    @XMCP
They keep the links private, don’t do sitewide links, and (supposedly) don’t leave a footprint on the publisher pages.

  7. Steve on January 28th, 2008

TLA is still there. I found them at like #60 or so. Obvious penalty. TNX has already been singled out by google and they dropped out of the sky before they had time to look down. If you do a search for “Text link ads” there is a place called linkworth that seems to be the one filling this void you speak of.

  8. poodles on February 8th, 2008

I’m trying to get my poodles website listed high on the search engines, then I will try some text link ads. I never click on them though, actually….maybe I will start a blog and then implement TLA

  11. Vaibhav Sharma on March 4th, 2008

Google hates TNX.net as much as Americans hate Osama.
My site was having 200 uniques per day but since I installed this tnx code, the whole site is out of search engine.
You can check now by including site: before my site.

    Tnx.net ruined my site. :(

  12. Burton Snowboards on March 13th, 2008

Anyone know how these links appear? Are they placed on sites that are relevant or just any old site?

  13. Sucker on March 13th, 2008

    @Burton

I tested the service on some of my sites and link placement varies. The links are placed on relevant sites based on the categories you select, and you can approve or delete links on an individual basis.

The problem is, most publishers place the TNX code in a terrible location, such as the footer, or hide it in the sidebar with a real small font and make the links look like obvious paid links.

Overall TNX is pretty cool, but I quit using it because of all the publishers that are not following link placement guidelines.

  14. Text Links on April 2nd, 2008

I go for the new link directorys with few links present. You get more link juice flowin that way!

  15. Dave from Welcome Back Rosenthal on April 10th, 2008

I use tla and was thinking about tnx but I think I’m going to use one of the other dozens of other monetizing alternatives until google gives a definitive yea or nay on this issue. So far my 3 tla links haven’t caused an issue, and yes, they are in the sidebar, but they’re “woven into” the fabric of the blog.

  16. Ray on April 23rd, 2008

Nice review this will help alot of people its helped me at my site

  17. Anil Gupta on April 29th, 2008

Bloggers can use TNX & TLA for getting instant money from their blogs

  18. Blogging guides on May 8th, 2008

Well I calculated prices I get for each link using tnx and I find it pretty low. Pricewise i don’t find
tnx as a good alternative to tla

  19. Sucker on May 10th, 2008

    @Blogging guides

TNX is good for link buyers, while TLA is the best choice for link sellers ;)

  20. Sharewarecheap on May 23rd, 2008

    Thanks
It seems tnx is a good choice for many advertisers.

  21. Digital Revolutions on May 23rd, 2008

TNX is a good system although it takes a while to make any real cash.

  22. Sharaz-Curve on June 11th, 2008

  25. Frank Polenose on June 13th, 2008

  28. David Bradley on June 23rd, 2008

I searched for the phrase “text link ads” and there they are at #1, so not sure where you’re coming from with that opener…

  29. Sucker on June 23rd, 2008

    @David Bradley

Did you notice this article was written almost a year ago? Things change in that amount of time.

  30. Laveranues Pedigree on June 24th, 2008

Funny, TLA ranks number one for Text Link Ads and this TNX site has no Page Rank. Can you clarify?

  31. Sucker on June 24th, 2008

    @Laveranues Pedigree

Long story short, TLA was a big site that got hit with a penalty. The penalty has since been lifted, so it’s back on top.

TNX isn’t very old, and it was launched while Google was starting to crack down on link sales, so it’s no surprise that it’s not in the rankings.

(It’s more of a surprise that TLA has good rankings again.)

  32. David Eaves on June 24th, 2008

Just thought that I would let you know that they appear top be back in the index now:

    http://www.seoco.co.uk/blog/2008/06/24/text-link-ads-back-in-google/

  33. Emboodo on June 26th, 2008

Lets go to the basic of link exchange and make a little more fit to our time. Find a website that have relevant content, small amount of links on the page and reasonable page rank (sometime in the industry PR 3 or 4 also works) and negotiate directly with site owner monthly or yearly fee for static links. It is a classic winwin situation and you might work harder but you save money and risk.

  34. miro on July 3rd, 2008

I think Text Link Ads is still competiting. There is no doubt that Google Adsense is the best.

  35. Forumistan on July 7th, 2008

Ehehe, Google hates people who sell or buy links.

  36. Marketing Morgan on July 9th, 2008

It is interesting how Google penalizes certain link buying service providers more than others. I wonder why? Either drop them all or let them be IMO. I have not had a ton of success with link buying, but it sometimes help to supplement natural link building campaigns.

  37. Adsense tips on July 18th, 2008

I’ve applied for TLA but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to put it in my blog. I’ve tried WP 2.5, 2.6 everything, put the plug in, insert the code in the sidebar, still nada.

  38. Matt on July 22nd, 2008

Text Link Ads is all but gone – they have been for a month now. Type their name directly into the search and nadda. Of course, they’re buried into 70 , when they used to be #1. Can you say “Penalty”?

  39. Free Ads on July 24th, 2008

What’s really funny is that if you search google for “text link ads”, this post is number one, with or without the quotes. :)

In the comments, you say they have come back up, but for what search term? I think they may just have temporarily come back up.

I wonder what it’s done to their business. People are paranoid to buy links anyway, so I’m guessing business is probably not to good over there, but I don’t know.

  40. Alex on July 24th, 2008

text-link-ads were penalised , they were not in the search results and checked just now they are number one now. We did think of using them but not anymore.

  41. dpdhunt on August 2nd, 2008

    Google hates competition to adwords…

  42. Professional Lab on August 2nd, 2008

Why don’t TXN allow blogspot blogs. And TLA don’t work good anymore for publishers! I don’t use it.

  43. Ashley on August 3rd, 2008

Good post, I just wanted to add my site to TLA :)

  44. Michigan Credit Card Processing on August 7th, 2008

Page Rank is updated daily just not on the tool bar. You get the benefit once you get the quality link. Great site

  45. abdz on August 8th, 2008

hey stupids ,,, google is not a GOD t know what those TLA’s are doing ,so if i where google :)
i’ll finish TLA’s so no one could find them

google well not figure out how much or what sites are selling and buying ads ,, it is a reasonable action to penalize only the big ones do you read me the big ones only ,, so join the TLAs and shut up coz there is no one could know what the F**k is on your websites

  46. scott on August 13th, 2008

I don’t know. I’m staying away from the whole TLA concept until the smoke clears some more. I know its been awhile, but who wants to get blitzed by the big G?

  47. Telugu MP3 Songs on August 21st, 2008

I was shocked to see tnx.net banned by google, now there is no other way lest to top search engines.

  48. Making money with Anil Gupta on August 23rd, 2008

I have been making lots of money with TLA but still got no opportunity from TNX to make money

  49. Dave on August 26th, 2008

I think that’s a valid point, google will always spot and hit the big text link ad sites so go with the mid to small size ones.

  50. madG on September 20th, 2008

Alright, guess how i find this site…just typed “Text-Link Ads” in google search bar and it was listed #1…so here i am LOL. I will add to the issue something, whatever it is TLA or TNX both sucks. I also dont belive anyone who says “i made ton of money with my TLA”. Google doesnt like competition…doesnt matter big or small!

  58. aktenium on October 12th, 2008

As far as I know, one harms his site/blog when he/she sells links. Even if he uses services like TLA. I wouldn’t like to wake up one morning and find out that my site has a penalty from google. I have suffered enough from that already.

  59. Wolfbernz on October 12th, 2008

I have to say out of all the make money online sites TLA has been the best for me.
I do sell a lot of links on my blog and my page rank started falling. What I have noticed is even though my page rank has fallen my traffic is better then ever… Go figure.

    All the best,

  60. Loan on October 14th, 2008

I am not sure whether to buy ads or not. Im in a competative industy, but dont want to get penalised,

  61. Downloadic on October 21st, 2008

Because selling or buying “backlink” is illegal…

  62. Chris on October 28th, 2008

IMO, selling or buying “backlink” isn’t illegal, google just doesn’t like it, if it is illegal, why sites like tnx and tla didn’t get closed down?

  63. TNX on October 28th, 2008

I found it hilarious when TLA dropped out, but if you look you will see that TNX is not in Google either. I have used both of these services and I love the results I have gotten with TNX.

  64. Luke smith on October 29th, 2008

I have to say, there alot lower than they used to be, but there still there.

Awesome tip, and you can use features on page rank prediction to gauge where a site might be heading.

  65. Luke smith on October 29th, 2008

    Just a thought though.

Obviously your talking about pages suddenly increasing in PR, don’t get caught out the other way, pages can soon loose there pagerank!

  66. papia on November 2nd, 2008

I am not sure whether TLA and/or TNX have dropped out of google, but what is certain is that anyone who uses such services will have his site(s) penalized for sure.

  67. Web Design India on November 7th, 2008

Text-Link-Ads (TLA) has all but disappeared from Google. Does that mean that text link selling services should quit and give up, or does it mean that there is an open spot for market leader? -

Goggle is the ultimate GOD, writes and destroys the destinies of puppets like TLA :)

  68. Nbansal on November 7th, 2008

TLA PR has dropped to 0 – severely penalized by google.

  69. Adam on November 30th, 2008

Now that’s interesting. So. Is their business dead? I can’t imagine they could survive without conversions from organic search. Their cost of customer acquisition would just be too high.

  70. BackLink Tactics on November 30th, 2008

Haha – I like that – It’s all about Yahoo backinks – Even though Google has 70% of the market.

I wonder if the pending Microsoft Yahoo deal will change things.

  71. bebo whiteboard on December 16th, 2008

any one used tla and earned with them?

  72. martin on December 25th, 2008

I have used tnx results are good but google has been manually playing with the serps. There is one thread i saw on digital point forum. Tnx or tla aren’t banned but certainly penalised, I used tnx about 6 months ago and still use it but i am planning to move away from it as the publishers are not that smart and don’t follow guidlines. If you use tnx you can make out who else is using tnx and i can make out the publishers as well who are using tnx. Even pr7 blogs and websites are using them. I am sure that one of google staff must have used the tnx system to find out how the link looks like when using tnx. It doesn’t leave any signature for automatic google filter but quite easy for a manual review for anyone who used tnx. Last but most important the results were great , if you have an old site then you can certainly rocket it to the top for your keywords in 45 days until google does manual review and site does somersault.

  73. Timon Weller on December 29th, 2008

We all have to understand there reasoning of the keyword ban google did with TLA… It was to protect the index from spammy sites ranking better than quality content… Unfortunately TLA promoted to many techniques that manipulated the engines, however they are still a good program…

I wonder if they will change some of there pr effecting links to nofollow to get back in with google? If you ask me it is all traffic whether it is nofollow or not…

  74. chattanooga on January 1st, 2009

We all have to understand there reasoning of the keyword ban google === good

  75. Steve B on January 3rd, 2009

I can see a well deserved google pr7 for tla at the moment.

I have(today)signed up for the tla service simply because i have no other placement for google ads. Google takes pride of place and i do not want to saturate the site.

Tla strikes me as a very professional company who have a careful approach as to who they will accept as a publisher. The tla acceptance procedure is without doubt well structured even though it seems to be automated.

I will keep you guys updated with how the website is treated by the search engines after installing the tla script. I cant see a problem with usilising this(seemingly)highly professional company.

As a footnote: I did try to include another site of mine and it was rejected.
These guys are on the ball imho.

  82. joanne on January 14th, 2009

    Thank you for the compliment.

I truly need help finding a reliable company that will help me with SEO with good inbound links.

    I hired a company called Register Everywhere,Inc.
They are professional “rip off” artists. This company linked our site to their clients sites which have nothing to do with our type of business.

RE also used a link farm. The first few weeks I was pleased to see we were ranking in the second page of the organic search for some competetive keywords but then one day we just disappeared. I guess Google finaly got a hold of what they were doing and I paid for it at both ends.

Where can I get the work done with a reliable company you had good experience with? Please send me some solutions.
