If You Read It On a Blog, It Must Be True

national enquirer true stories

One of my favorite blogs to read is BlogStorm by Patrick Altoft. It’s usually full of great advice about link building and making money and all that good stuff, but one of his older posts popped into my head today, and I couldn’t help but laugh!

The post in question is Are webmaster forums killing SEO. Basically, he says that the information being passed around on webmaster forums is junk.

Then he finishes with this summary:

If you don’t know how to market a website don’t ask in a forum. Read some blogs instead.

And I kind of agree. But he forgot to point out that there are numerous blogs that are full of the same crap, or even worse crap, than the forums. And he forgot to give you a list of crappy forum posts and a list of good blogs to read instead.

So I’m going to help him out and finish up his post by giving you A list of good blogs for marketing advice, according to Sucker who is using psychic abilities to think like Patrick Altoft.

How’s that? I’m betting it’s pretty good, thanks to my crystal ball and palm reading ability. ;)

Oh, almost forgot, the forum posts! Here are some example posts from the DigitalPoint forums, which may or may not be full of crap:

Certainly there is some good advice somewhere in there. We’ll have to see what Patrick thinks about that!

(He should be able to find this post if he is indeed monitoring his online reputation…)

Click here to buy me a beer, because damn, I need to get drunk to forget how much internet marketing sucks!

8 Comments so far... but what do you think?

Obviously not everything you read on forums is crap…. ;)

  2. Jeffrey Eisenberg on September 4th, 2007

Sucker’s psychic abilities seem to be right on. Thanks for including us on the list.

Thanks for the mention. You can get some real nuggets off forums but you’ve got to spot the nuggets from the floaters which ain’t easy if you’re new to this Internet game.

    Thanks for stopping by guys!

It’s kind of like you have to know proper internet marketing so that you know what advice is good advice. But if you already know what is right, why would you need advice?

    It’s just so complicated :)

Seeing as you’re stealing my FeedCounter Stats I think a link back to me would be nice, don’t you think?

  6. Sucker on September 5th, 2007

Adie, I thought I already wrote about that, but maybe I was saving it for after certain testing and it’s not mentioned yet. My bad.

So if you can’t wait any longer, here’s a link to your site:

    @ Adie

Let`s be honest – you, me and Levi – for a minute or so.
Once you publish something, no matter if online or offline, you are subject to be :
    - quoted
    - missinterpretated
    - analized
    - ranked
    - subject of (irony, pamphet, support, back-up, ignore)

    List may go on.

Things can go whorst when you preffer to use public reactions instead of private …
And doing so you may endanger one`s projects …

    Subject of irony LOL :)

Good point Valentin. Especially with blogs like InternetMarketingSucks around!
