The Latest Trend: Made For Making Money Websites

wizard with crystal ball

Now that “Made For Adsense” websites are on the decline, “Made for Text Link Ads” websites are popping up everywhere. It makes sense, cause TLA can provide some hefty payouts.

But this trend will come to an end at some point, and if my crystal ball is right, there will be a totally new breed of websites popping up in 2008…

And they will be “Made for Making Money” websites. These websites will be useful for visitors and provide something they want, whether it is information, a product, or a service. The end goal will be to make money! Isn’t that revolutionary?!

All you have to do is build a great site and get tons of traffic to it. Then you make money by selling advertising space, posting affiliate links, or eventually selling out to a large corporation.

And let me restate that this is a totally new trend. None of the other “Made for X” websites used such strategies as traffic building and ad placement. Cutting edge, let me tell you!

This will be soooo different than anything else in the past. I have a feeling that this will be the biggest trend yet, so remember, you heard it here first!

Got Scripts?

If you’re looking for scripts, there are a few places to go that will probably have what you want.

HotScripts, for example. But that’s obvious because it has “scripts” in the domain.

I have actually seen the best scripts at DynamicDrive and GentleSource.

While you might think that DynamicDrive is a new type of automatic transmission or that GentleSource sells baby products or personal lubricants, they actually provide really cool website scripts for free.

Also interesting is a directory of scripts at ScriptCopy, but in this case it’s what you’d expect: clones of popular scripts like Digg, Youtube, and Match.com.

(Yep, just a quick post, but I wanted to share these resources. Now go look around if you need scripts…)

Quick Marketing Tip For Anyone With a Film or Movie Related Website

spout logo

You can credit this tip to the filmmakers behind Four Eyed Monsters, who turned me on to Spout, a social network for people who love films.

The tip is to join Spout and create a profile, where you could mention your site. And just like any social network marketing, the key is to have a good profile, meet people, and contribute. In this case, you’ll write some movie reviews and post comments on other reviews. Spamming isn’t going to work, so don’t waste your time. (This isn’t Myspace ;) )

I’d venture a guess that the people on Spout would be highly targeted prospects, so take your time and put some effort into it.

And to show off your page, you can add this Spout badge to your site.

(Note: If you sign-up for Spout using that link, the creators of Four Eyed Monsters get $1, so do a good deed and help them pay off their credit card debt! :) )

Why Make Fun of Everyone?

internet marketing bully

Today I’m going to answer a question that no one has written in to ask, but I figured it’s one of those questions that someone *might* ask if I was a popular guru with lots of loyal newbies listening to my every word…

Why are you making fun of all these gurus and websites? Are you some hot shot?

To that I say, everyone just needs to lighten up a little. Life’s too short to take everything so seriously. Hopefully this blog brightens your day :)

I’m certainly not a hotshot nor any way above these other webmasters and bloggers. A good number of them are smarter, richer, more experienced, and maybe even better looking than I am.

But I like to have fun and make jokes, and it just so happens that I use a lot of sarcasm. So you’ll need to get used to it, because otherwise every post on here will probably offend you! :)

If you’re new to this blog, hopefully that explains things, and you can look forward to more reading material. :)

The Latest Moos on John Cow

(Get it, news moos ;) )

John Chow’s latest competitor, John Cow, is up for sale. I’m kind of worried because the site is great and really funny, but you never know what will happen when a blog changes hands…

And you never know when the novelty will wear off, so I’d be weary of buying the site, despite the amazing Alexa ranking.

But before the novelty does wear off, look at this ad I saw today:

john cow adsense ad

It’s funny because it fits in with the site’s normal content about cows and mooing. I’d say they get the award for best site-targeted Adsense ad on John Cow.

(It’s certainly better than the lame attempts shown here.)

Watch Out For People That Think You Suck

I don’t want to name any names, but some people out there think that internet marketing sucks! ;)

And because of these feelings, some blogger might just write about how much you suck. You could search Google and Technorati all day looking for your name, but that would take forever.

Luckily, Patrick Altoft over at BlogStorm listed his top 6 reputation monitoring tools. It’s a great list because all you have to do to keep tabs on your name is copy and paste his links into your RSS reader. (Well, you have to change the search terms to your name, but that’s it.)

Then just scan these feeds once a day and see if anything cool pops up. (Or, if you’re really paranoid, go through the beginner’s guide to reputation monitoring at MarketingPilgrim.)

I’ll be on the lookout, because when you bash internet marketers like I do, you’re bound to get some backlash!

Want .gov Links? Then Make a .gov Website!

How hard do you think it is to get .gov and .edu links to your site?

If you said hard, super hard, or impossible, you’re wrong. I already uncovered easy and free ways to get .edu links, but now I’ll show you how to get .gov links the easy way. (But note, I didn’t say it’s the cheap way…)

You start the process by reading up on how to qualify for a .gov domain name.

Then just start your own city.

Once that’s taken care of, you can request your .gov domain!

(OK, maybe starting your own city does qualify as “hard” ;) )

But seriously, you might be able to start an organization that is part of your local city government, and end up with a domain name like myorganization.mycity.gov. Or, slightly easier, try to partner with some agency that’s part of your local government. Maybe you can convince them to link to your related website.

Then it just becomes a question of “How much is a .gov link actually worth??”
