Silly Bloggers – Blogger Is For Kids!

silly rabbit blogger

While there are many things that really irritate me, Blogspot blogs are in the running for the most irritating. It’s not just that all the templates are the same and that there are so many crappy ones, it’s that they’re a total pain to comment on.

I saw a post at SiteFever last week entitled Blogger Users – What Are You Thinking? that really got me fired up, so I had to post my full rant here!

If I’m visiting a normal blog, like a self-hosted Wordpress blog, I can read the entry and leave a comment on the same page. Then the page refreshes and like magic, there is my comment staring back at me.

doshdosh blog comment

Contrast that to a Blogspot blog, where I can read the entry normally, but I have to click a link to comment. Then I’m taken to a page just for commenting. Well, what if I want to reference something in the article? It’s nice to know what I’m commenting on while I’m commenting

blogger comment crap

Or sometimes the comment box conveniently pops up in a new window, that is not resizeable…

blogger popup crap

To top things off, Blogger’s comments are sent over an SSL Encryption for some strange reason. That wouldn’t bother me except for the incessant security warnings as I switch between secure and unsecured pages. After dealing with those, I forget what I was going to write, and I have to click the back button to review the post…

blogger security crap

As if that’s not enough, there’s a real kick in the nuts some bloggers use… they don’t allow non-Blogger users to comment! Talk about prejudice!

no anonymous comments

Certain bloggers require that you sign-in with your Google account before continuing to comment. So by now I don’t have a clue as to what I was going to write in the comments, not that it matters anymore, because I’m only there long enough to click the “X” and close the page for good.

Why these bloggers discourage comments is beyond me…

I’d love for you to leave a comment, and you can do so below, quickly and easily! :)

hahaha. All I can do is laugh. That’s great!

  2. Sebastian on August 29th, 2007

Yup, commenting at blogger is a PITA, and the very few comments you get from readers already signed in are nofollow’ed. If you really like to hate Blogger, then read my Blogger roasting. ;)

  3. sitefever on August 29th, 2007

I really don’t see why people keep using blogger. It’s such a pain I’ve about reached the point when I notice I’m on a blogger blog, I don’t even waste my time- I just leave right away.

  4. GnomeyNewt on August 30th, 2007

Hahaha, well at least I’m not the only one. I could have written your post word for word, screenshot for screenshot. I find myself leaving bloggers blogs often when it is time to comment. I get very disorientated when I try to comment.

Blogger is like training wheels. at some point you have to grow up and move to WordPress.

Like John Chow says “there are those that use Wordpress and those that wished they used Wordpress” .

Thanks for stopping by yesterday. Did you get a chance to read the article about John Chow. Can you believe that John Chow, changing the rules to soothe his ego! LOL

100% agree to what you said. I experienced all the shit you mentioned, the only thing i haven’t do is to make a post to shoot blogger but never mind now ;)

    i hate not resizeable windows.

Blogger is quick and convenient – not everyone cares about comments, or even readership for that matter. I agree, anyone who is serious about blogging, or wants readers, should use something (anything) better – but I have friends who want to stick up a page, ramble on for a bit, and forget about it. They don’t care if it gets read – they just think it’s fun to have something out there.

I think that’s the people blogger is targetting.

I Absolutely hate blogger, that is why I have used wordpress for my blog. I think it is more convenient and it has so many add-ons freely available to do things on your blog.

Pretty funny insecure page stuff, “Screw That” Lol.. :) very funny.

Blogger is the best if you’re not hosting your blog on your own domain. Why? You can use adsense and CPM ads. Blogger doesn’t care. Plus google likes their own blogger blogs better than wordpress ones.

If you use Haloscan, you can comment on the post page.

  13. An Internet Marketing Blog on November 19th, 2007

Agreed. I regret starting so many of my blogs (including this one…) on blogger. WordPress rules. I’m changing most of my blogs over to WordPress now (well not NOW… but one by one… only so much I can do at once!)

  14. content generator on June 28th, 2008

    Hilarious title. Well done!

  15. Kids Recipes on June 7th, 2009

I totally agree with you! commenting on blogger is a hard job. whenever i find something on a blogger blog and i cant resist commenting; I’m always fed up with the pop up comment box; and most importantly the thing i hate is the need to sign in with your Google or blogger account.
